Often ignored, this striking line sees few repeats. Starting with a right side pull, move onto arête and continue up very technical climbing to the top of this stunning feature.

King Richard

The crack next to King Richard, super obvious. The top out for this climb can be exposed if you choose to follow the direct line up. There is a variation out right which is easier and less exposed. All and all, commitment/ confidence is key! Go big or go right on variation, your choice.

On the large, tall, Northeast face of Layback Rock is a beautiful, eye snagging layback seam. Climb that sucker to the scary top out. Sees very few ascents.

Tons 'a fun. Start hugging the rock and follow the right edge of the scoop.

Located on the U-Shaped feature directly across the canyon from the Fontainebleau/Scrotum boulder. This is two separate problems that I am counting as one. Not sure which is which, but one problem goes up left on the U to surmount the shelf and the other goes out right to accomplish the same goal. Both equally challenging, and like most groom creek routes, are friction dependent. Both routes start on the same crimp-jug. From here fire up to the textured sloping shelf and pick your direction. I personally find the left variation easier.

Low start. Pull up and right to two obvious holds. Interesting mantle (crux) to high slab (kind of scary).

Easy laybacks to fingerlocks and a curious topout.

This one seems straight out of Bishop: climb the lovely left-facing flake and patina to a committing long reach over the lip. Top out on super cool square inclusions. One of Groom's finest highballs.

On the east face of Layback Rock is a scooped out line of hard holds.  

  I showed this once upon a time project to Eric in 1998, and told him it was undone. In no time flat the  flames were lit, and he fired it off in a handful of tries. I was never able to do it, so it could be harder than V8. I think I was too tall;) 

  Eric's been climbing for forty years or more, whith much of that time traveling and sampling the goods all over the country. Classic, hard problems tend to bob around in his wake, and I think this line is another to add to the list. At 54, he's still capable of bouldering V8's and harder when he's in shape. a true inspiration.

Head up the blank face between Space Lords and the obvious crack.  Start on the knob and enter the vertical realm of gastons and edges. A chicken head is waiting for you at the finish. Remember the aerets are off!
